Snow Globe

Aura moderate evocation; CL 8th; Slot —; Price 2,000 gp; Weight

Description

When shaken as a free action, tiny snowflakes and ice pellets instantly fill the confines of a transparent, 3- inch-diameter glass sphere. The sphere can be thrown up to 120 feet with no range penalties. Upon sharp impact, the sphere shatters, creating an emanation duplicating the effects of a raging blizzard within a 40- foot radius, 20-foot-high cylinder. Heavy snowfall buffeted by severe winds (31–50 mph) obscures all sight beyond 5 feet, including darkvision. Creatures 5 feet away have concealment (attacks by or against them have a 20% miss chance). Because of the high winds and blinding snow, ranged weapon attacks and Perception checks are at a –4 penalty. In addition, unprotected, non-magical flames are automatically extinguished, while protected non-magical flames dance wildly and have a 50% chance of being extinguished.

In addition, 1d4 feet of fresh, heavy snow instantly cover the ground. It costs 4 squares of movement to enter a square covered by this fresh snow. The fearsome blizzard lasts for 1 minute before suddenly dissipating. At the end of the duration, the snow disappears and the winds return to normal, leaving no aftereffects. Any snow or ice present prior to shattering the snow globe remains.
