CASTING

Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S

EFFECT

Range long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Area 20-ft.-radius spread
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw Reflex half; Spell Resistance yes

You launch a small bead of energy that flares at one moment and crackles with frost at another. The bead of energy explodes dealing 1d8 plus 1d6 damage per caster level after the first (maximum 9d6) to every creature in the area. The damage dealt by the spell is random.

Roll a d8 and consult the table under the volatile bolt spell.

Like the volatile bolt spell, you may choose the damage type by using the result of the d8 damage die or the d8 rolled for the table. If both results are the same, the radius of the burst is increased by 10 feet.

The positive and negative energy rules are the same as the volatile bolt spell. Unattended objects also take this damage. The explosion creates almost no pressure.

You point your finger and determine the range (distance and height) at which the spell is to burst. Unless it impacts upon a material body or solid barrier prior to attaining the prescribed range, the spell blossoms into the volatile burst at the designated point. An early impact results in an early detonation. If you attempt to send the bead through a narrow passage, such as through an arrow slit, you must “hit” the opening with a ranged touch attack, or else the bead strikes the barrier and detonates prematurely.
