You can only cast this spell as an immediate action in response to taking 10 or more points of acid, cold, electricity, or fire damage from a spell or spell-like ability‘this spell gains the same energy descriptors as the damaging effect. For the duration of this spell, you can change the type of damage and descriptors of any spell, spell-like ability or class feature (such as an arcanist exploit, bloodline power, magus arcana or other similar class feature) that deals acid, cold, electricity, or fire damage to that energy type. If you have the arcane reservoir class feature, you can expend 1 point from your arcane reservoir as a free action in response to taking another 10 points of a different type of energy damage to add that type of damage to the list of energy types you can substitute for a spell’s damage while under this spell’s effects.

Doing so extends the duration of the spell to its full original length. You can expend points in this way multiple times before this spell’s duration expires.
