Description

This plum-sized morsel of partially frozen whale skin and blubber is commonly known as muktuk in many circles. When a living creature eats whale blubber (as a standard action provoking attacks of opportunity), the fatty meat provides enough caloric intake to satisfy a Medium creature’s food requirements for 24 hours.

Within 1d4 rounds after consuming the item, thick blubber appears beneath the creature’s skin, granting the creature DR 5/piercing or slashing, but imposing a –2 penalty to Dexterity. The added layer of insulation warms the eater as if he were affected by an endure elements spell. In addition, the eater can hold his breath for a number of minutes equal to 4 times his Constitution score before he risks drowning. Once eaten, the effects granted by whale blubber last for 24 hours. Only living creatures gain any benefit from this item.
