Description

This pale white rod is made from a white dragon’s rib.

If the head of a rod of winter is planted into a snow-covered or icy surface, and the possessor wills it to scan as a standard action, the rod projects a three-dimensional map of the 60-foot-radius area beneath it just above the corresponding surface. The rod details only the outlines of nonliving features created by water in its solid or liquid forms. The map reveals the depth and volume of the ice, snow, or liquid water in the locale as well as any voids or abscesses in the ice and snow, but it cannot detect the presence of other materials such as earth or stone. For instance, a complex built from wood and stone beneath the ice would appear only as a large void, whereas a network of tunnels and passages carved out of the ice and snow would appear in exacting detail. The map remains for 10 minutes and then disappears. The rod can perform this function three times per day.
