Cloning Vat

Price 10,000 gp; Slot none; CL 15th; Weight 1,000 lbs.; Aura moderate necromancy

This massive metal vat is filled with expensive alchemical components conducive for cloning creatures. Closing vats are usually built within the lab in which they are to be used, and are difficult and time consuming to move once built. Doing so requires discarding the alchemical components stored within it and completely disassembling the vat, requiring a week and reducing its weight to 250 lbs, and for it to be reassembled in a new location and refilled with expensive alchemical reagents, requiring another week and an expenditure of 2,500 gp. With a DC 30 Craft (alchemy) check, the initial reagents can be saved and reused, assuming you have a way to safely store and transport 750 lbs of liquid.

When using the clone spell, you can use the vat as an additional focus component for the spell, placing the growing clone within it to reduce the time it takes to grow to 1 month. A cloning vat can only be used to grow a single clone at once. Removing the clone from the vat without a creature’s soul inhabiting it immediately destroys the clone.

When used with the Seeds of Life forbidden knowledge, the cloning vat can be used to sustain a single clone seed without an investment of essence on the part of the promethean who created it. A cloning vat can only sustain a single clone seed at any one time.

A cloning vat can only assist in the growing of clones up to Medium size. Larger cloning vats cost an additional 5,000 gp and have their weight doubled for each size category they can assist in cloning beyond Medium.

Using a cloning vat does not replace the material components required to use the clone spell or the Seeds of Life forbidden knowledge.
