Alternate Racial Traits

The following alternate racial traits may be selected in place of one or more of the standard racial traits above. Consult your GM before selecting any of these new options.

  • Mender: Some Drifthorns show reverence to their tribal warriors by dressing their wounds and providing them with herbal remedies. These individuals gain a +2 racial bonus on Heal checks and +1 racial bonus on Knowledge(Nature) and Craft(Alchemy) checks. This racial trait replaces Hunter in the Drifts.

  • Earthen Savant: Some Drifthorns are innatey talented with earth magic, allowing them to manipulate the land magically with no formal training. These individuals can use expeditious excavation once per day as a spell-like ability (caster level equal to the Drifthorn’s class level). This racial trait replaces Relentless.

  • Immovable Spirit: Drawing on the earth’s stability allows Drifthorn shamans to maintain their focus when met with circumstances that would trip up many casters. These individuals gain a +2 racial bonus on concentration checks made to cast divine spells defensively.

  • Stoneseer: (Requires Earthen Savant) Drifthorns who are born with the natural capacity for geomancy and the will to pursue formal magic can channel their innate connection with the land to enhance their spellcasting ability. These individuals add +1 to the caster level of any spells with the earth descriptor they cast. They also gain the following spell-like abilities: constant—nondetection; 1/day—magic stone, stone shape, stone tell. The caster level for these spell-like abilities is equal to the user’s character level. This racial trait replaces Gatecrasher.

  • Urban Outcast: Drifthorns who choose to leave their tribes to live among humanoids do not always find themselves in places cosmopolitan enough to be hospitable to outsiders and quickly learn to watch their backs. These Drifthorns gain a +2 racial bonus on Sense Motive and Perception checks. This racial trait replaces Hunter in the Drifts.

  • Urban Survivor: (Requires Urban Outcast) Particularly unlucky Drifthorns find themselves in cities with openly hostile citizens and are forced to hone their senses further and abandon their hesitation to engage in combat. These individuals gain Improved Initiative as a bonus feat and Perception is always considered a class skill for them. This trait replaces Hardy.

  • Cornered Fury: (Requries Urban Survivor) Those ignorant enough to attack a Drifthorn for minding its own business are rarely foolish enough to do it alone. Experience fending off these small mobs grants urban Drifthorns the ability to forge ahead when the odds are stacked against them. Whenever one of these individuals is reduced to half its hit points or fewer and has no conscious ally within 30 feet, it gains a +2 racial bonus on melee attack rolls and to Armor Class. This trait replaces Improved Natural Armor.
