Peep of Doom

You’re not quite sure what happened. It looked like an ordinary if somewhat rural street in any small village. People going to market. Children playing. A couple of dogs sniffing around, one of them particularly interested in a fluffy chick. Odd. Don’t see too many baby chickens out alone like that. Must have gotten lost. Anyway, it was ordinary one moment, and then the next all hell broke loose. People fighting. Really going for blood. Odd. You’d think a baby chicken would run from the violence, but that one almost seems to be enjoying the bloodshed.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Consume Luck (Su)

A peep of doom feeds on luck and the psychic pain of the dying. The peep of doom chooses a creature within 30 feet as its target. That creature and all of its allies within 30 feet of the peep of doom suffer a -2 luck penalty to attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, ability checks, and skill checks. There is no saving throw against this effect, but spell resistance can block it. Treat the peep of doom as a 4th-level caster.

Discordant Peep (Su)

A peep of doom can compel creatures to violence by peeping. Creatures within a 20-foot-radius spread must make a DC 14 Will save or attack the nearest non-allied creature within sight, continuing hostilities for 6 rounds. Creatures forced by a discordant peep to attack employ all methods at their disposal, choosing their deadliest spells and most advantageous combat tactics. After the initial duration expires, creatures may act normally, but often by this time it is too late to stop the battle. A creature cannot be affected by any single peep of doom’s discordant peep more than once per day. Discordant peep is a sonic, mind-affecting compulsion. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Looks Like a Baby Chicken (Ex)

Since a peep of doom looks like a normal baby chicken, a Sense Motive check opposed by its Bluff check is required to notice its evil intention. Anyone with ranks Knowledge (arcana) can use that skill instead of Sense Motive to notice the plant.

ECOLOGY

Environment any non-aquatic
Organization solitary
Treasure none

The peep of doom appears to be a normal baby chicken, but it is actually a terrible monster with a devious mind and a love of chaos and bloodshed. It exploits its mundane appearance in order to move in plain sight among its intended victims. A peep of doom relies primarily on its magical powers and stealth. If forced to defend itself, it recovers from injuries at an astonishing rate. More than one attacker has squashed a peep of doom with a stomp only to see it pop back up a few seconds later. A peep of doom fights with a magical peck that saps its victim’s personality and causes rapid blood loss.
