Master Channeler

The ability to directly tap into the raw divine energy is incredible, and any who are blessed with such a gift should work to master such a fantastic ability. So says the master channeler, who devotes her life to furthering her understanding and control of such power.

The vast majority of master channelers start out as clerics, since few others can meet the class’s prerequisites, though a rare few are oracles with the Life mystery. Unfortunately, a paladin‘s views are too extreme and inflexible to become a master channeler, and cannot meet the alignment requirement. Likewise, other characters (such as oracles with the Bones mystery or necromancers) do not have a true connection to divine powers.

Class Features

The following are class features of the master channeler prestige class.

Spells per Day

At the indicated levels, a master channeler gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in a spellcasting class she belonged to before adding the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained, except for additional spells per day, spells known (if she is a spontaneous spellcaster), and an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a master channeler, she must decide to which class she adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

Channel Energy (Su)

A master channeler’s class levels stack with levels in her class that grants channel energy for the purpose of determining the amount of damage healed or dealt, as well as determining the save DC.

Channeling Scion (Su)

A master channeler is an expert at channeling energy; she can channel energy one additional time per day for each level in master channeler she possesses.

Heightened Channel (Su)

Starting at 2nd level, a master channeler’s channel energy is more difficult to resist. She gains a +2 bonus to the save DC of her channel energy (this stacks with the bonus gained from the Improved Channel feat).

Channeling Expertise (Su)

At 3rd level, a master channeler learns to affect different types of creatures with her channel energy. By expending two uses of her channel energy, she may choose one alignment or elemental subtype and channel energy to heal or harm outsiders with that subtype, as if she had the appropriate alignment channel or elemental channel feat.

Versatile Channeler

At 4th level, a master channeler gains Versatile Channeler as a bonus feat, even if she does not meet the prerequisites. If she already possesses the Versatile Channeler feat, she can instead gain a bonus channeling feat (though in this case she must meet any prerequisites for the bonus feat).

Bonus Feat

At 5th level, a master channeler may choose a bonus channeling feat (channeling feats are any feat that has channel energy or another channeling feat as a prerequisite). This is in addition to the feats that a character of any class normally gets from advancing levels. The character must still meet any prerequisites for these bonus feats. A master channeler gains an additional channeling feat at 9th level.

Shape Channel (Su)

At 6th level, a master channeler can expend an extra use of her channel energy ability to change the area of effect of her channel energy. Instead of a 30-foot radius burst, a master channeler can channel energy in a cylinder (15-foot radius, 40 feet high), a 60-foot cone, or a 120-foot line. If she changes the area to a cylinder, it’s radius must be centered on her; if she changes the area to a cone or line, she must be at one end of the effect (just like a spell with a similar area of effect). All other aspects of the channel energy (such as whether it deals or heals damage) remain the same except for it’s area of effect.

Light and Dark (Su)

At 7th level, a master channeler may, as a full-round action, affect all eligible creatures within her channel energy radius, both healing creatures and harming the opposite kind of creature. This ability can be used to channel positive or negative energy, or channeling to affect a creature with a specific subtype (such as with Channeling Expertise , or the alignment channel or elemental channel feats), but not with special uses for channeling, such as Turn Undead . See Table: Subtype Opposites for creature subtypes and their opposites. When the master channeler channels energy with this ability, she may also expend an additional use of her channel energy to choose a number of targets in the area up to her Charisma modifier; these targets are not affected by her channeled energy (this ability can also be used with selective channeling, allowing the master channeler to exclude a total number of targets equal to double her Charisma modifier).

Empower Channel (Su)

At 8th level, a master channeler can channel energy more powerfully. By expending an extra use of her channel energy ability, she can increase the amount of damage dealt or amount healed by 50%. She can use her Shape Channel ability with Empower Channel, but must expend an extra use for each (for a total of 3 uses: one to channel, one to change the shape, and one to empower it). Empower Channel has no effect if used for abilities that do not deal damage or heal, such as Turn Undead.

Ultimate Channeler (Su)

At 10th level, a master channeler becomes a true master. She does not take the effective level penalty for using Versatile Channeler (so can channel both positive and negative energy at her full amount). She no longer has to expend an extra use of her channeling to use her Shape Channel ability. In addition, her channel energy save DC increases by an additional +2 (stacking with Heightened Channel, to a total of +4).
