Divine Comedian

[[[[[nearly completed]]]]]

The divine comedian is a buffoon and a poet, a genteel as well as a rabble rouser, a clown prince, a fop, oh you get the idea. He is the Tricksters hand in this world often leaving audiences and foes alike bewildered and impressed. All his actions reveal truth through humor, reveling in the absurdities of the world, rubbing the collective nose in “it”.

A divine comedian has little use for stifling formalities and often mocks those who would take things far too seriously. He has many enemies, but is quick to make a friend. In short a divine comedian is everything and nothing, that the world needs.

Role: Divine comedians spend their lives bringing laughter to the world and stamping out hypocrisy where ever it might have a hold. Wanderlust is a close friend to these whip wits of the Trickster, and luckily so since they often have to leave a place in an awful hurry.

Alignment: Divine comedians cannot be of lawful alignment. Most are of good alignment at least, but some wicked types have been known to be viciously evil.

Hit Die: d6.

Spells: Able to cast cure light wounds, disguise self and enthrall.

Skill Ranks at Each Level: 4 + Int modifier.

Class Features

All of the following are Class Features of the divine comedian prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

Divine comedians gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

Spells per Day/Spells Known

When a new divine comedian level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain other benefits a character of that class would have gained, except for additional spells per day, spells known (if he is a spontaneous spellcaster), and an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a divine comedian, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

Bardic Performance

Levels in divine comedian stack with Bard levels for the purposes of Bardic Performance. A divine comedian who has no levels in bard gains 2 rounds of Bardic Performance for each level in divine comedian.

Improvisation

At 1st level the divine comedian may use Perform (comedy) in place of Bluff or Intimidate. If he already has the Versatile Performance class ability from Bard then he may use Perform (comedy) in place of any other Perform skill.

Opening Monologue

At 2nd level if the divine comedian acts during a surprise round he may spend a round of Bardic Performance. If he does all enemies within earshot who speak the language he is using must make a Will save DC 10 + divine comedian levels + Charisma modifier or be unable to act during that surprise round.

Comedic Timing

At 3rd level whenever an opponent fails a saving throw against one of your spells you may force them to reroll their initiative. This new initiative replaces their old initiative immediately. If that opponent hasn’t acted yet this round then they lose their action for the turn if the new result is higher than your initiative. If that opponent has acted this round and their new result is lower than your initiative they do not get to act again this round. This ability triggers a number of times per day equal to your Charisma modifier and only once per round.

Political Satire

At 4th level a divine comedian may make an embarrassing performance that curses a victim. The divine comedian must perform for 5 consecutive rounds at the end of which the target must make a Will save DC 10 + divine comedians level + Charisma modifier or suffer from Bestow Curse for the next 24 hours. The target must either be in earshot or the performance must be done in front of at least 30 people that know the target very well. The divine comedian must make a Perform (comedy) as a concentration check as if casting a 4th level spell in order to maintain the performance during any round in which they are distracted (such as being physically restrained or taking damage).

Parody Foe

At 5th level a divine comedian may ready a standard action while his performance is in effect to parody a foe. Choose a foe in 30′, when that foe takes an action if the divine comedian can copy that action and if he successfully does so then the opponents action fails unless a natural 20 was rolled. Copiable actions include a melee attack, ranged attack or spell. An attack that is copied must be able to hit a foe, not necessarily the parodied foe, but the weapon must be similar, such as the same size or type. To parody a spell the divine comedian must have the same spell available and succeed in a caster level check against the target as if he were dispelling the spell. A divine comedian without previous bard levels must wait until 7th level to use this ability.

I’m Here all Week

At 6th level the following spells cast by a divine comedian count as being extended, confusion, disguise self, false vision, invisibility, mislead, and nondetection.

Screwball Comedy

Bring Down the House

Black/Romantic Comedy

Bring to Tears/Killing Joke
