Noble Crocodilian

Crocodilians are large aquatic reptiles with a long, pointed snout. Some of its lower teeth are exposed when the jaw is closed. It is olive-green with dark crossbands on the back and tail. The skin is protected by large bony plates. The crocodilian has a heavy tail, short legs, and webbed hind feet. The crocodilian has protruding eyes and nostrils, raised slightly above the flattened head, allowing the animal to see and breathe while the rest of its body is submerged. The ears have flaps that close when the head is submerged. A fold at the back of the mouth closes off the air passage from the food passage, enabling the animal to breathe even when its mouth is open underwater. The jaws have powerful muscles and sharp, strong teeth that are frequently shed, replaced by new ones that grow in their place. Both sexes have a pair of scent glands under the chin that secretes musk, a strong-smelling substance that attracts a mate.

Crocodilian size can vary greatly depending on the breed. Adult crocodilian length can vary from 3.3 feet to 16 ft, and their weight can vary from 40 pounds to over 2,600 pounds. Crocodilians show pronounced sexual dimorphism, with males growing much larger and more rapidly than females. Despite their large adult sizes, crocodilians start their lives at around 7.9 inches long. The largest species of crocodilian is the saltwater crocodile.

Species Descriptions

More than any other species (with the possible exception of noble tigers), noble crocodiles delight in challenging humanoids to lethal effect. Some say this is because they simply like the taste of man-flesh over any other prey. And they have plenty of flavors to compare it to: crocodiles — noble and otherwise — will eat anything that walks, crawls, swims, or flies. They are probably responsible for more violations of the second law than any other species. Of course, they strike so suddenly that their victims rarely get a chance to yell out “Don’t eat me, I’m a noble!”

Noble crocodilians of every stripe will challenge more often than not, but when they do serve, it is almost always to tribes of reptilian humanoids. Noble crocodiles tend to favor lizardfolk, while noble alligators will side with kobolds.

Grab (Ex)

At 2nd level, you gain the Grab special attack. When you hit with a bite attack, you deal normal damage and may attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. Grab only works against opponents that are at least one size category smaller than you. You have the option to conduct the grapple normally, or simply use your jaws to hold your opponent. If you choose to do the latter, you take a –20 penalty on your CMB check to make and maintain the grapple, but do not gain the grappled condition yourself. A successful hold does not deal any extra damage. Each successful grapple check you make during successive rounds automatically deals bite damage. Noble crocodilians with the grab special attack receive a +4 bonus on combat maneuver checks made to start and maintain a grapple.
