Physical Description: Neun are slim and attractive beings, born from the off-spring of the fabled Nue and ancient Humans. They possess an unnatural grace and charm to them, despite otherwise looking similar to a human. They are easily distinguished by their eyes which vary from many shades of red (from pink to an almost brownish red). They also possess tattoos which stretch across their bodies from head to toe – these tattoos varying in colors and shifting in their hues over the course of the Neun’s lifetime.

Society: Neun have no defined society of their own, often blending in with Humans, winning over the trust of those who are aware of their heritage. They are however characterized by their near hedonistic desire for “excitement” and “pleasure”, seeking out new experiences on the daily; this leads to them partaking in shady and dubiously legal acts, engaging in many sexual or otherwise deviant behaviors, and acting in ways which would label them as a thrill-seeker or degenerate.

Relations: Due to their nature and appearing like Humans, Neun often present themselves as such and choose not to reveal their heritage. Because of this they are liked by those races which like humans, and even liked by some who do not – their ability to charm and persuade others allowing them to get on the good side of some races who would otherwise despise humans.

Alignment and Religion: Neun prefer to remain Neutral, seeing both good and evil as excuses for one side or another to oppress and control the lives of others. Though they tend to side more with good than evil, they view the classification of “evil” as misguided, instead preferring “selfish” instead. Despite their views on morality, their views on society are completely skewed towards chaos. Laws are fickle things to a Neun, and rules only ever hinder them in their eyes.

Adventurers: The drive to adventure is one driven by excitement and a desire to see the world or accomplish some greater goal they have set for themselves. Despite their normally long lifespans, those Neuns who adventure often have their lives cut short due to the danger present – not that this fact deters them, as the desire to find enjoyment in life overpowers their fear of death.

It is not uncommon for a Neun to embark on an adventure at the height of their boredom with the world (which starts around adulthood), this boredom comes from a perceived notion of having experienced all there is to life available within their safe bubble, and looking for ways to relight that spark in themselves which acts such as consuming large quantities of alcohol or engaging in debauchery would have benefited.

Common Names: As humans

  • Type: Neun are humanoids with the neun subtype.

Defense Racial Traits

  • Lucky: Neun receive a +1 luck bonus on all saving throws.

Magic Racial Traits

  • Seductive: Once per day the Neun can cast Charm Person, so long as the individual is sexually attracted to the Neun, treating their character level as their caster level. The save’s DC is equal to 10 + 1/2 level + Charisma modifier.
  • Malleable: Neun can change their appearance at-will as if using the Disguise Self spell upon themselves. Alternatively, their form can be that of a medium-sized black cloud as per the Nue‘s Cloud Form ability.

Senses Racial Traits

  • Darkvision: Neun can see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.

Alternate Racial Traits

  • Viper Tail: Replacing their tattoos is the tail of a viper, a vestige of their Nue heritage. This tail has its own bite attack which deals 1d3 points of damage and has the Nue’s poison (1d4 Dexterity damage on a failed save, frequency 1/round for 6 rounds, cure is 2 consecutive saves, and the DC is Constitution-based). This replaces Seductive.
  • Dark Being: This changes the Neun’s darkvision to encompass 120 feet instead of 60 feet, however they acquire light sensitivity because of this. This alters Darkvision.
  • Situational Luck: Once per day the Neun can reroll a single d20 result and take the better result. This replaces Lucky.
  • Poison Resistance: The Neun receives a +4 bonus on saves against poisons. This replaces Lucky.
  • Nue Shape: Neun can sometimes take shapes similar to that of their Nue ancestors; they can take this form in order to grant themselves a bite attack and two claw attacks appropriate for their size, however this form is limited and can only be done once per day with a duration of a number of rounds equal to 3 + their Charisma modifier. This replaces Malleable.
  • Controller: Neun sometimes prefer to use more forceful methods to get what they want; allowing them to cast Hypnotism once per day. This replaces Seductive.
