Spellstaff Magus

Spellstaff magi are masters of magical staves; capable of wielding them equally as weapons and tools of the arcane.

A standard magus can gain the benefits listed here by taking the staff magus archetype, replacing knowledge pool, and selecting the critical strike, dispelling strike, maneuver mastery, and spell shield arcanas.

Quarterstaff Master (Ex)

At 1st level, the magus gains Quarterstaff Master as a bonus feat, even if she doesn’t meet the prerequisites.

Staff Methodology (Ex)

At 1st level, the magus gains the benefits of the Weapon Focus feat with staves, including the quarterstaff, even if she doesn’t meet the prerequisites. She can wield any staff as a quarterstaff in combat. This does not allow her to qualify for feats with Weapon Focus as a prerequisite.

At 4th level, she also gains the benefits of Weapon Specialization with any staff she wields.

Bonus Arcana

At 4th level, the magus gains spell shield as a bonus arcana. She also gains critical strike at 11th level, maneuver mastery at 16th level, and dispelling strike at 19th level. The magus does not have to meet any prerequisites of these arcanas.

Quarterstaff Defense (Ex)

At 7th level, while wielding a staff, the magus gains a shield bonus to her AC equal to the enhancement bonus of the staff, including any enhancement bonus on that staff from her arcane pool class feature. At 14th level, this bonus increases by +3.

Staff Weapon (Su)

At 8th level, the magus treats any magical staff she is wielding as a magical quarterstaff with an enhancement bonus to attack and damage equal to the staff’s caster level divided by 4 (minimum +1). The staff must have at least 1 charge for the magus to use this ability. The magus can restore 1 charge to a staff by expending a number of points from her arcane pool equal to the level of the highest-level spell cast in the staff, as long as at least one spell in the staff is on the magus spell list. The magus cannot restore charges to more than one staff per day.
