Fey

Alignment: Chaotic Good, Chaotic Neutral, or Chaotic Evil.

Devotion: A warlock with a great old one patron may add 1 to their total number of fey ally rounds per day.

Pact: Dealing with the fey is a dangerous and deadly gambit. The line between ally and adversary can often be blurry and shift on a whim. The warlock gains the pranked Oracle curse but this does not provide any additional spells known (such as faerie fire and ghost sound) and never changes its abilities as the warlock gains levels. The warlock however gains the ability to influence and conduct these capricious fey. For a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + her Dexterity modifier, the warlock may manifest a helpful fey ally in her square as a free action. At each level beyond 1st, the warlock may manifest a fey ally for 2 additional rounds per day. A fey ally moves with the warlock and takes no actions unless commanded by the warlock. A fey ally can only take one command per turn unless otherwise stated. A warlock may only have one fey ally active at any time. Fey allies are not creatures and cannot be the targets of spells or attacks.

The warlock can command her fey ally to deliver her attacks for her. Whenever the warlock would make a melee attack with a light melee weapon, attempt to deliver a touch spell, or attempt a dirty trick, disarm, steal, or trip combat maneuver, she may have her fey ally deliver the attack or maneuver to an enemy within 30 ft. of the warlock. Any attack or maneuver delivered by the fey ally is resolved as if the warlock was performing the attack except she may use her Dexterity modifier instead of her Strength Modifier on attack rolls and combat maneuver checks. After delivering the attack, the fey ally returns to the warlock’s space. The fey ally does not threaten and cannot provide or benefit from flanking. The warlock may command her fey ally to deliver any number of attacks or combat maneuvers she could make but all attacks delivered by the fey ally must be made against the same target.

Manifestations

Warlocks with a Fey patron gain the following manifestations at the listed levels.

Discordant Performances: The warlock may command her fey ally to begin a discordant performance as a standard action, but it can be maintained each round as a free action. Maintaining a discordant performance is a command and prevents the fey ally from taking any other commands in the same turn. Changing a discordant performance from one effect to another requires the warlock to stop the previous performance and command her fey ally to start a new one as a standard action. A discordant performance cannot be disrupted, but it ends immediately if the Warlock is killed, paralyzed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action to maintain it each round. Commanding a fey ally to do anything other than maintain a discordant performance ends the performance’s effects.

At 7th level, a warlock can command her fey ally to start a discordant performance as a move action instead of a standard action. At 13th level, a warlock can command her fey ally to start a discordant performance as a swift action.

Discordant performances are similar to bardic performances and count as the bard‘s bardic performance class feature for the purposes of qualifying for feats and prestige classes and are modified by feats and abilities that modify bardic performances such as lingering performance.

The warlock has access to the following discordant performances:

  • Inspire Cowardice (Su): The fey’s haunting songs shake the resolve of enemies. To be effected, an enemy must be able to hear the fey ally’s performance. All affected enemies take a -1 penalty on saving throws against charm, compulsion, and fear effects and a -1 penalty to AC and attack rolls. At 5th level, and every six warlock levels thereafter, this penalty increases by -1, to a maximum of -4 at 17th level. The penalties from multiple inspire cowardice do not stack. Inspire cowardice is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting ability.
  • Dream-like Fog (Su): The fey’s words cloud the mind and body of a single enemy making them sluggish and weak. To be effected, the enemy must be able to hear the fey ally’s performance. The target takes a -2 penalty to saving throws. At 8th level, the penalty increases to -4. The penalties from multiple dream-like fogs do not stack, nor do they stack with the penalties from witches‘ evil eye hexes or mesmeristshypnotic stare. This is a mind-affecting effect.

Ally Aid (Su): At 4th level, the warlock may command her fey ally to aid herself or others in other ways. The warlock may command her fey ally to protect herself or an ally within 30 ft. as a move action. The fey ally flies to the target’s square and takes on the appearance of the creature moving in and out of their form obfuscating where the creature actually is. Until the beginning of the warlock’s next turn, the target of the fey ally’s protection benefits from a 50% miss chance as if it had total concealment. Unlike actual total concealment, this does not prevent enemies from targeting the creature normally. True seeing reveals its true location and negates the miss chance.

Alternatively, the warlock may command her fey ally to aid in the spell casting of herself or an ally within 30 ft. as a move action. The next time the target casts a spell before the beginning of the warlock’s next turn, the fey ally can aid in the casting of that spell in many ways. The caster of the spell chooses one way for the fey to help at the time they cast the spell. The following are ways the fey ally can aid in spell casting:

  • The fey ally can provide the verbal or somatic components of the spell effectively casting the spell as if it were modified by the Silent Spell feat or Still Spell feat. Casting a spell in this way does not increase the time required to cast the spell.
  • The caster gains a +2 circumstance bonus to any concentration checks or caster level checks made to cast the spell.
  • The fey ally can increase the spell’s caster level by 1 or increase the spell’s DC by 1.

Additional Ally (Ex): At 8th level, a warlock’s command of the fey forces that surround her increase. The warlock may manifest and command two fey allies at a time. Each round the warlock has two fey allies manifested consumes 2 rounds of her fey ally.

Discordant Performances: At 12th level, the warlock gains access to more discordant performances she may command her fey ally to perform.

  • Lullaby (Su): The fey’s soothing songs lull a creature within 30 ft. to sleep as per the spell sleep. To be effected, an enemy must be able to hear the fey ally’s performance. The effected creature receives a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the warlock’s level + the warlock’s Dex modifier) to negate the effect. If the save fails, the creature falls asleep for as long as the fey ally maintains this performance. This performance can affect a creature of any HD. The creature will not wake due to noise or light, but others can rouse it with a standard action. This performance ends immediately if the sleeping creature takes damage. Whether or not the save is successful, a creature cannot be the target of this performance again for 1 day.
  • Honeyed Words (Su): The fey’s enchanted words effect the attitudes of all enemies within 30 ft. To be effected, an enemy must be able to hear the fey ally’s performance. The effected creatures receive a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the warlock’s level + the warlock’s Dex modifier) to negate the effect. Non-humanoid creatures receive a +5 bonus to their Will save. Enemies that fail their save are effected by the charm person spell regardless of their creature type. Enemies that fail their save by 5 or more are instead effected by the suggestion spell regardless of their creature type. This is an enchantment (compulsion, charm), mind-affecting ability. This is also a language-dependent ability to creatures effected by suggestion.
  • Distracting Pester (Ex): The fey flies into an enemy’s space and move with them, distracting and making casting spells much more difficult. Whenever an effected creature attempts to cast a spell, they must make a concentration check (DC 10 + the warlock’s Dex modifier + double spell level) or lose the spell.

Cloud of Faeries (Ex): At 16th level, a warlock’s perfects her control of the fey. The warlock may manifest and command three fey allies at a time. Each round the warlock has three fey allies manifested consumes 3 rounds of her fey ally.

Fiendish Blessings

Warlocks with a fey patron may select from among the following fiendish blessings. The DC to save against these blessings is equal to 10 + 1/2 the warlock’s level + the warlock’s Dexterity modifier. Whenever a warlock would gain a feat, they may instead select a fiendish blessing they qualify for.

Arcane Allies (Sp): The warlock can command her fey allies to lend her their arcane power to cast spells as a free action. Until the end of her next turn, the warlock gains the use of several spell-like abilities. Using these spell-like abilities may require the warlock to consume additional rounds of her fey ally in order to use (this is in addition to the round used to command the fey ally). The warlock may use any spell-like ability that they have a high enough warlock level to cast. The save DC for these spell-like abilities are Dexterity based. If the spell-like ability would require a touch attack or has a range of touch, the warlock may command her faerie ally to deliver it with the same command. The spell-like abilities granted by this command are the following:

Spell-Like Abilities Warlock Level Fey Ally Rounds
charm person, faerie fire 1
fly, tree shape 4 2
charm monster, hallucinatory terrain 7 3
polymorph, summon nature’s ally IV 10 5
feeblemind, transport via plants 14 7
mass charm monster, summon nature’s ally VIII 17 9

Enchanted Step: The warlock may command her fey ally to fly to an unoccupied square within 30 ft. as a move action. As a free action taken before the beginning of the warlock’s next turn, the warlock may teleport to her fey ally’s space. This free action may be taken on other creatures’ turns but can only be taken once per command. The warlock must be 6th level before selecting this blessing.

Expanded Performance: The warlock’s fey allies learn an additional discordant performance. This performance can be selected from among the countersong, distraction, fascinate, inspire competence, suggestion, dirge of doom, frightening tune, and mass suggestion bardic performances. The warlock must be of high enough level to select the performance, treating her warlock level as her bard level. This blessing may be selected multiple times, each time the warlock’s fey allies learn an additional discordant performance as chosen by the warlock.

Extra Fey Ally: The warlock can use her fey allies for 6 additional rounds per day. A warlock can gain this blessing multiple times. Its effects stack.

Fey Finesse (Ex): The warlock’s Dexterity score permanently increases by 2 points. A warlock must be at least 20th level before selecting this blessing.

Fey Hide (Ex): The warlock gains DR 1/cold iron. At 8th level and every 4 levels thereafter this damage reduction rises by 1 point. This blessing counts as the fel hide blessing for the purposes of the fel flight general fiendish blessing. A warlock must be at least 4th level before selecting this blessing.

Psychic Words (Su): The fey ally’s discordant performances can partially affect creatures that are mindless or immune to mind-affecting effects (such as an undead or vermin). Such creatures gain a +2 bonus on their saving throws (if any), and if affected, they still have a 50% chance each round of ignoring the effect. Ignoring the effect doesn’t end the effect, but does allow the creature to act normally for that round.

Friend of the Wild (Sp): The warlock’s ability to summon friends extends beyond just fey. Twice per day the warlock can cast summon nature’s ally as a spell-like ability. At 4th level and every 2 levels thereafter, the level of summon nature’s ally that the warlock can cast with this spell-like ability increases by 1 (summon nature’s ally II at 4th level, summon nature’s ally III at 6th level, and so on). A warlock can gain this blessing multiple times. Each time she does, she may use this spell-like ability two additional times per day.

Tactical Tricks (Ex): A warlock gains her choice of Improved Dirty Trick, Improved Disarm, Improved Steal, or Improved Trip as a bonus feat. She can also ignore Combat Expertise and an Intelligence score of 13 as prerequisites for other feats that require the improved or greater combat maneuver feat of the maneuver she selected. A warlock can gain this blessing multiple times. Each time she does, she gains a different feat from those available.

Tricky Delivery (Ex): When the warlock commands her fey ally to deliver a touch spell, instead of a normal touch attack, the fey ally may deliver the spell with a dirty trick, disarm, steal, or trip combat maneuver. The chosen maneuver must be one the warlock has the improved combat maneuver feat for. The warlock makes a combat maneuver check against the target’s CMD. If the combat maneuver is successful, the spell’s touch attack is also successful and the creature take the effects of both the combat maneuver and the spell. A warlock must be at least 10th level and have the tactical tricks blessing before selecting this blessing.

Incarnation

Once per day as a standard action, the warlock may become an incarnation of the fey for a number of minutes equal to the warlock’s Dexterity modifier. Their type changes to fey. While an incarnation, the warlock becomes a swarm of faeries gaining swarm traits and growing one size category larger. The base damage of her swarm attack is 5d6 though she may still use any weapons or equipment she could normally use. While an incarnation, the warlock can manifest and command up to 5 fey allies at a time without needing to expend rounds of her fey ally. The incarnation also gains the ability to cast invisibility at will as a spell-like ability. The warlock may consume 5 rounds of her fey ally to extend the remaining duration of her incarnation by 1 round.
