Legendary Investigator Talents

The following talents are usable by a standard or legendary investigator.

  • Poison Exposure (Ex): The investigator has taken the time to expose themself to various poisons to increase their resistance. The investigator gains a +2 bonus on all saving throws against poison. At the investigator’s 5th character level the bonus increases to +4, and to +6 at their 8th character level. When the investigator reaches their 11th character level, they become immune to all poisons, natural or otherwise.
  • Poison Training (Ex): The investigator has a deep understanding of poisons and their various uses. The investigator cannot accidentally poison themself when applying poison to a weapon. If the investigator spends 1 minute physically examining the poison, he can attempt a Knowledge (nature) check to identify any natural poison or Knowledge (arcana) check to identify any magical poison (DC = the poison’s saving throw DC). Lastly, once a poison is identified, he can spend 1 minute and attempt a Craft (alchemy) check (DC = the poison’s saving throw DC) to neutralize 1 dose of the poison. Success renders the dose harmless. The investigator has no chance of accidentally poisoning himself when examining or attempting to neutralize a poison.
  • Tools of the Trade (Ex): The investigator has learned how to leverage the tools at hand. When using a tool that increases a skill check, like a healer’s kit or thieves’ tools, the inspiration die applicable to that skill is increased by one step (e.g., d6 to d8, d8 to d12). This also allows you to use inspiration on a crafting skill check if you are using tools to do so.

Assessment Talents

For the following talents, the investigator may expend inspiration as a free action to attempt a Knowledge skill check against the target of their studied combat. The Knowledge check corresponds to their target’s creature type; e.g., religion for undead, dungeoneering or oozes, etc. If the check succeeds against the creature’s normal DC, in addition to the creature being identified and statistics revealed the investigator gains additional benefits of one assessment talent they choose as detailed below. This Knowledge check may be attempted even if the creature has previously been identified.

The beneficiaries of the assessment talent must be within 60 feet and be able to hear and understand the investigator to be affected. The effects last for 1 minute, unless stated otherwise. If the next target of the investigator is another creature of the same general type, for example another ghoul when the first was a ghoul, they may choose to keep the knowledge roll and benefit from their previously used assessment talent. If the Knowledge check result and previous benefit is kept, they need not spend inspiration to activate the assessment talent. The creature must be of a substantially similar type. To continue the previous example, you may retain the Knowledge check and benefit against a ghast in the pack attacking you, but not against the vampire that leads them.

  • Tactical Assessment (Ex, Assessment): Prerequisite(s): Legendary investigator 3rd level; The investigator has knowledge of the general behaviors of the target creature, granting them and their allies a +1 competence bonus to AC, CMD, attack rolls, and combat maneuver checks against it. If the investigator succeeds on their Knowledge check by 10 or more, then this competence bonus increases to +2. If they succeed by 20 or more, the competence bonus is further increased to +3.
  • Puissance Assessment (Ex, Assessment): Prerequisite(s): Legendary investigator 7th level; The investigator can use their combat knowledge to help them and their allies fight off the influence and powers of the target creature. The investigator and their allies gain a +2 competence bonus on saving throws against spells and abilities of the target creature. If the investigator succeeds on their Knowledge check by 10 or more, then this competence bonus increases to +4. If they succeed by 20 or more, the competence bonus is further increased to +6.
  • Vulnerability Assessment (Ex, Assessment): Prerequisite(s): Legendary investigator 11th level; The investigator has knowledge of the target creature’s weak spots and can direct their allies to strike them. The investigator and their allies add 1d6 damage against it. If the investigator succeeds on their Knowledge check by 10 or more, then this damage bonus increases to 2d6. If they succeed by 20 or more, the damage bonus is further increased to 3d6. This bonus damage is considered precision damage. Creatures immune to precision damage are immune to this ability and this damage is not multiplied on a critical hit. This bonus damage does not stack with similar precision damage like an investigator’s (or legendary investigator’s) studied strike, or sneak attack.
  • Bypass Assessment (Ex, Assessment): Prerequisite(s): Legendary investigator 15th level; The investigator can identify the resistances and immunities of the target creature and can find innovative ways to bypass them. The target creature has their damage resistance, spell resistance and energy resistance reduced by 5 (minimum 0). If the investigator succeeds on their Knowledge check by 10 or more, any energy immunities are reduced to a resistance of 20 and condition immunities are reduced to a saving throw bonus of +5. If they succeed by 20 or more, the resistance reduction is increased to 10, energy immunities are reduced to resistance 15 and condition immunities are reduced to a +2 saving throw bonus.
  • Predictive Analysis (Ex, Assessment): Prerequisite(s): Legendary investigator 19th level; The investigator can predict the movements and actions of the target of their studied combat. The creature rolls twice and takes the lower result on any attack, opposed skill check, or caster level check as the investigator either predicts their moves or calls out their actions to their allies. Additionally, the investigator and all allies roll twice and take the higher result on any saving throw against them.
