Bonded Investigator

Some investigators, in their esoteric studies, eschew some of their training in combat and danger readiness.

Instead, they rely on the faculties of their familiar to aid them in their jobs and in times of danger.

Bonded Familiar (Ex)

At 1st level, the bonded investigator gains Familiar Bond feat as a bonus feat without having to meet the prerequisites. At 4th level, the bonded investigator gains Improved Familiar Bond as a bonus feat without needing to meet the prerequisites. This ability replaces the studied strike at 1st level.

Course of Study (Ex)

The bonded investigator cannot take a course of study that grants them a companion creature. Otherwise, their course of study progression and choices are unaffected. This ability modifies course of study.

Studied Strike (Ex)

At 3rd level, the legendary investigator begins their studied strike at +1d6 and increases it by +1d6 every odd level thereafter to a maximum of +9d6 at 19th level. This ability modifies studied strike.

Inspired Familiar (Ex)

At 3rd level, the bonded investigator’s familiar becomes a helpful assistant in their studies and investigations. The familiar can access the bonded investigator’s inspiration pool to augment its own actions; the use of inspiration is deducted from the bonded investigator’s number of daily uses as normal. The familiar can use the inspiration ability (and gains the increased benefits of investigator talents that affect the bonus dice used in this ability) but cannot expend uses of inspiration for other purposes. This ability replaces the danger sense gained at 3rd level.

Danger Sense (Ex)

At 6th level, the bonded investigator gains the 3rd-level benefits of danger sense. The bonus granted increases by 1 every 3 legendary investigator class levels to a maximum of +5 at 18th level.

Improved Familiar (Ex)

At 7th level, the bonded investigator gains Improved Familiar as a bonus feat treating their legendary investigator level as their arcane caster level for the purposes of determining which familiars are available to them. This ability replaces the investigator talent gained at 7th level.
