Teratogenic Beastmaster

Not all with animal companions are shining knights or nature lovers. Some are experimentalists whose companions are half pet, half test subject. The teratogenic beastmaster gains an animal companion and the ability to produce mutagens that can affect both of them at the expense of some of their own combat prowess.

Base Attack Bonus

A teratogenic beastmaster gains a base attack bonus equal to a sorcerer of their class level.

This modifies base attack bonus.

Hit Dice

A teratogenic beastmaster uses d6 for their Hit Die.

Class Skills

The teratogenic beastmaster gains Handle Animal and Ride as class skills. This modifies class skills, but may be combined with other archetypes that add new class skills.

Animal Companion (Ex)

At 1st level, a teratogenic beastmaster forms a bond with an animal companion. A teratogenic beastmaster may begin play with any of the animals available to a druid. This animal is a loyal companion that accompanies the teratogenic beastmaster on their adventures. This ability functions like the druid animal companion ability (which is part of the nature bond class feature). The teratogenic beastmaster’s effective druid level is equal to their alchemist level. If a character receives an animal companion from more than one source, their effective druid levels stack for the purposes of determining the companion’s statistics and abilities.

If a teratogenic beastmaster releases their companion from service or their animal companion perishes, they may gain a new one by performing a ceremony requiring 24 uninterrupted hours of alchemical dabbling, producing potent pheromones to attract the new companion in the environment where it typically lives.

Teratogen

The teratogenic beastmaster must select the mutagenic discipline at 1st level. The mutagens they create can affect their animal companion in exactly the same way they affect their animal companion, including special effects of [evolution] discoveries. Applying a mutagen to their animal companion companion is a standard action and requires the teratogenic beastmaster to be adjacent to it.

This modifies alchemical discipline. A teratogenic beastmaster cannot also gain an automaton in any way.

Bomb-proof companion (Ex)

At 2nd level, a teratogenic beastmaster’s animal companion gains a +2 bonus on all saving throws against fear effects and the DC to intimidate it increases by 2. This bonus and increase to DC increase to +4 at 5th level, and then again to +6 at 8th level. At 10th level, the teratogenic beastmaster’s animal companion becomes completely immune to fear effects.

This replaces poison resistance.

Monstrous Link (Ex)

At 5th level, in any round where the teratogenic beastmaster applies a mutagen to their animal companion, they may spend a swift action to allow the animal companion to immediately take a move action to move, even if it isn’t the animal companion’s turn.

This ability replaces the discipline breakthrough gained at 5th level.

Extended Mutagen

At 11th level, the teratogenic beastmaster can spend 1 additional point of quintessence when creating a mutagen to cause its effects to last for 1 hour per alchemist level. This mutagen can only be applied to their animal companion. In addition, the mutagenic alchemist’s animal companion may spend a full-round action to suppress the effects of their mutagen. While suppressed, the animal companion can spend an immediate action to regain the benefits of their mutagen. Both of these actions requires the teratogenic beastmaster to command their animal companion, as though it were a trick. (The animal companion need not spend a trick known to do this.)

This ability replaces the discipline breakthrough gained at 11th level.

Anomalous Companion

At 17th level, the teratogenic beastmaster’s animal companion is considered to permanently be under the effect of one of its master’s mutagens. As a standard action the teratogenic beastmaster may touch their animal companion and spend one point of quintessence to change the [evolution] discoveries the animal companion benefits from and which of their physical ability scores gains a +8 bonus, which gains a +6 bonus, and which gains a +4 bonus. This activates monstrous link class feature as if the teratogenic beastmaster were applying a mutagen to their animal companion. In addition, the teratogenic beastmaster may now benefit from mutagens created with the extended mutagen class feature, though it requires 1 minute for them to suppress the effect and a full-round action to regain it. The animal companion may still suppress and regain the benefits of their mutagen as normal.

This ability replaces the discipline breakthrough gained at 17th level.

Fortified Companion

The teratogenic beastmaster does not gain the benefit of the mutagenic discipline defense. Their animal companion does instead.

This modifies discipline defense.
