Demon, Adjudicator Nalfeshnee

The obese floating monster wears stained robes and wields a large steel gavel. It’s curled yellowing judge’s wig looks absurd on its porcine face, but not so ridiculous as the tiny, vestigial angel wings that bear it bulk aloft.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Holding Gaze (Su)

held (as the spell hold person), 30 feet, DC 21 Will negates. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Legalese (Su)

As a free action, an adjudicator can speak a bizarre combination of legal speak and babbled insanity that affects any intelligent creature within 60 feet. Creatures who fail a DC 21 Will save take 1d4 points of Wisdom damage and are confused (as the confusion spell) for 1d6 rounds. A creature that succeeds on the save cannot be affected by the same adjudicator’s cacophony for 24 hours. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Profane Gift (Su)

Once per day as a full-round action, the adjudicator nalfeshnee may grant a profane gift to a willing humanoid creature by touching it for 1 full round. The target gains a +6 profane bonus to an ability score of his choice. A single creature may have no more than one profane gift at a time. So long as the profane gift persists, the adjudicator can communicate telepathically with the target across any distance (and may use any mind-affecting spells or spell-like abilities through the connection). A profane gift is removed by dispel evil. The adjudicator can remove it as well as a free action (causing 2d6 Charisma drain to the victim, no save).

Spellcasting

Adjudicator nalfeshnee cast divine spells as 16th-level clerics. They do not gain access to domains or other cleric abilities.

Subpoena (Sp)

The adjudicator nalfeshnee can deliver a message (as the sending spell) that also contains a suggestion (as the suggestion spell) compelling the target to travel to the adjudicator for the purposes of a trial. A DC 21 Will save negates the suggestion, but not the message. There is no chance of this ability not functioning if the adjudicator and the target are not on the same plane. The save DC is Charisma-based.

ECOLOGY

Environment any (the Abyss)
Organization solitary, panel (4), or high court (8 10)
Treasure double normal (+1 spellstoring light hammer)

Long established as the faithful devotees of Abyssal chaos, some demon lords empower a nalfeshnee to act as a mediator in disputes between underlings. Non-violent disputes are rare, leaving the often-bored adjudicator to seek or cause trouble. The demons love setting up a court and holding an insane trial that satirizes any true judicial process. Adjudicators possess an irrational love of the dramatic conflict between prosecution and defense, but the trial’s outcome largely depends on bribery. However, the insane creatures respond with terrible retribution when anyone dares question their authority or integrity. Adjudicator nalfeshnee are about 15 feet tall and weigh 7,000 pounds.
