SPECIAL ABILITIES

Euphoric Gaze (Su)

The gaze of the divine couatl inspires trust and relaxation. This acts as the euphoric tranquility spell (CL 17, Will DC 20). Creatures possessing any freely given couatl feather are immune to this effect. This is equal to an 8th-level spell. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Guarded Thoughts (Ex)

The divine couatl is immune to any form of mind reading, such as that granted by detect thoughts. This ability also grants a +2 racial bonus on all saves against charm effects.

Poison (Ex)

Injury bite; save Fortitude DC 27; frequency 1/minute for 10 minutes; effect 1d4 Str; cure 2 consecutive saves. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Spellcasting

Divine couatl cast divine spells as 15th-level clerics, and can cast spells from the sorcerer/wizard list as well as those available to a cleric. Sorcerer/wizard spells are considered divine spells for a divine couatl. They do not gain access to domains or other cleric abilities.

ECOLOGY

Environment warm forests
Organization solitary
Treasure double standard

Most couatl cringe at the thought of receiving mortal worship. They suffer it only to push the obedient flocks toward a better path, potentially finding corruption with an ends justify the means philosophy. For some that is only a rationalization, as the couatl finds blind subservience to their liking. These couatl come to enjoy godhood, lording over ever-growing groups of fanatics. They use their abilities to give the illusion of omniscience, and use fear to push the naive toward the greater good as they define it. Any threat to their rule is labeled evil, with the couatl appealing to their own divine authority as justification.
