SPECIAL ABILITIES

Death Throes (Su)

When an arctic black pudding is slain, its body explodes damaging anything around it. All creatures within a 10-foot radius burst of the creature take 6d6 points of cold and 6d6 points of piercing damage (Reflex DC 24 halves). The save DC is Constitution-based.

Frost Burn (Ex)

The arctic black pudding deals an additional 2d4 cold damage with all attacks and each round it grapples. Creatures that hit the pudding with natural weapons or unarmed attacks take damage as though hit by the arctic black pudding. Creatures affected by the burn ability must also succeed on a DC 24 Reflex save or take continuing damage for an additional 1d4 rounds at the start of their turn. A burning creature can attempt a new save as a full-round action. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Suction (Ex)

The arctic black pudding can create powerful suction against any surface as it climbs, allowing it to cling to inverted surfaces with ease. An arctic black pudding can establish or release suction as a swift action, and so long as it is using suction, it moves at half speed. Because of the suction, a black pudding’s CMD score gets a +10 circumstance bonus to resist bull rush, awesome blows, and other attacks and effects that attempt to physically move it from its location.

ECOLOGY

Environment any cold
Organization solitary
Treasure none

The arctic black pudding goes beyond the scavenging practices of its kin to hunt any living creature it senses. The hard, icy ooze, can go for weeks or months at a time between meals hibernating while camouflaged as a lump of permafrost. They reproduce in a similar fashion to black puddings, budding asexually whenever subject to piercing or fire damage. Many unfortunate souls have thought to turn fire against an ice monster, only to find the ooze worse than immune. Worse, when the ooze perishes they burst into icy fragments, causing other nearby arctic black puddings to split.
