The word nightmantle is synonymous with plague or other calamities among subterranean creatures. When a nightmantle arrives near a sufficient gathering of life, it spreads darkness and death until nothing remains. The nightmantles then sleep away centuries, awakening only to destroy anyone attempting to reclaim their territory. Over eons the monsters act as one great slow calamity, traveling from one side of the world to the other until all light is extinguished. A nightmantle stands 15 feet tall, is 60 feet in diameter and weighs 300 tons.
