Coqui Burst (Su)

When cornered the coqui can turn its soothing song into one that can harm its aggressors. As a standard action the coqui can create a 5 ft. burst of sound centered around itself. All creatures caught in this burst take 2d6 points of sonic damage (DC 14 Fortitude save for half). Other coquis are immune to this attack. The save DC of this ability is Charisma based.

Coqui Glyph (Su)

Coquis can be very tender and protective creatures, as such, they are drawn to those of pure hearts. If a coqui finds another creature it wishes to protect, it’ll jump on the creature and meld with the creature’s skin, turning into a tattoo that resembles a glyph like coqui. While the coqui is using its glyph ability, it cannot use any of its other abilities. Usually coquis that are familiars tend to spend most of their time grafted onto their masters. A character that has a coqui as a tattoo receives a +1 morale bonus to saves against mind-affecting spells and effects.

Coqui Song (Ex)

The coqui’s song is known for producing soothing effects on those who hear it. However, the coqui only ever sings at night. A singing coqui creates a 5 foot area of soothing music centered around itself, creatures in this area gain a +2 morale bonus against mind affecting spells and effects. If more than one coqui is singing its song within 10 feet of each other, they increase the area of their coqui song to 15 ft. and increase the morale bonus granted against mind-affecting spells and effect to +5. A coqui may maintain its song for 2 hours without rest, after singing the coqui need only rest for 1 hour before beginning to sing again.

Environment tropical
Organization solitary, pair, or army (3-20)
Treasure none

This diminutive golden frog always seems to be giving a gentle smile. Its soothing song gives away its name, coqui.

The coqui is rarely ever found alone, and even then it’s even rarer to see them out during the day. Legends on their creation abound, but the most common one involves a tribe that lived in a tropical paradise. Sadly they were almost wiped out by an invading army that wanted nothing but to enslave them, and steal the gold that decorated their tropical paradise. However, before their genocide they prayed to their gods to protect them from their invaders. Their gods, loving their people for the wonderful music they would create during their nightly rituals, decided to turn those who were left into the coqui.

Their tropical paradise was completely lost, but now the coqui can be found in any tropical area of the planet, providing their soothing songs to all those willing to listen. Perhaps it was a boon from their gods, but the coqui song provides protection against effects that would warp the minds of others. The coqui is a creature sought after by many exotic collectors for their rarity and golden color, many believe the coqui can bring good luck to those that possess even one.

A good aligned 7th-level spellcaster can gain a coqui as a familiar if he has the Improved Familiar feat.
