Ankheg, Worldeater

The massive insect-like creature has a void-black exoskeleton that seems to absorb all ambient light. Its back opens with a wet ripping sound to reveal giant buzzing wings. Mature worldeater ankheg range from 16-20 feet long and weigh 5,000-6,000 pounds.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Spit Acid (Ex)

Once every 6 hours, a worldeater ankheg can spit a 30-foot line of acid. Creatures struck by this acid take 13d4 points of acid damage (Reflex DC 24 halves). Once a worldeater ankheg uses this attack, it must wait 6 hours before using it again. Additionally, during this time, its bite attack does not inflict any additional acid damage. The save DC is Constitution-based.

ECOLOGY

Environment any (vacuum)
Organization solitary, pair, nest (3 12), or swarm (100 1000)
Treasure incidental

Massive swarms of worldeater ankhegs spend generations flying from planet to planet through the great void. The creatures enter a state of deep hibernation as they drift, with the swarm waking in fits and starts to cannibalize itself. Sometimes this causes the hive to dwindle away to almost nothing, but a sizable remnant spells doom for living worlds. The ankhegs descend like alien locusts, breeding in ever-growing numbers, and devouring anything in their path.
