Dread Thane

While most skalds inspire anger and rage in their allies, other learn to manipulate emotions in their enemies. Skalds that delve into the art of fearmongering learn to manipulate their foes perceptions to spread fear among enemy ranks, earning them the title of dread thane.

The dread thane is an archetype of the skald class.

Spells

A dread thane adds all spells with the fear descriptor of 6th level or lower to his spell list.

Agent of Dread (Ex)

A dread thane adds half his class level as a bonus to intimidate checks.

This ability replaces bardic knowledge.

Raging Song

The dread thane gains the following bardic performance at 14th level, this replaces song of the fallen. Seeds of Terror ( Su) – A dread thane can cause bouts of fright in those around him. Enemies that are both shaken and within 30ft. of the dread thane must make a Will save or become frightened for a number of rounds equal to his class level. The Save DC is equal to 10 + the dread thanes class level + his charisma modifier.

Dreadful Wounds (Ex)

At second level the dread thane gains a +2 competence bonus to damage rolls against enemies that are shaken. At 8th level, the dread thane gains a +4 competence bonus to damage rolls against enemies that are frightened and +6 competence bonus to damage rolls against enemies that are panicked.

This ability replaces well versed.

Desensitized (Ex)

At fourth level the dread thane gains immunity to fear.

This ability replaces Uncanny Dodge .

Fear Itself (Su)

Beginning at 7th level, while using a raging song, the dread thane simultaneously takes on a horrifying visage. All Enemies within 10ft. of the dread thane take a -4 to saves against fear effects. Creatures normally immune to fear lose that immunity while within 10ft. of the dread thane. The range of this ability increases to 20ft. at 13th level, and to 30ft. at 19th level.

This ability replaces versatile performance.
