War Genius

In their escapades, it is frequently necessary for investigators to enter into combat. The war genius eschews the more traditional alchemical knowledge of the investigator in favor of using his mental prowess to augment his fighting ability, mirroring his opponents’ moves on the fly.

The war genius is an archetype of the investigator class.

Skills

The war genius receives 4 + Int modifier skill ranks per level.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

War geniuses are proficient with all simple and martial weapons, light and medium armor, and shields (except tower shields).

Photographic Reflexes

War geniuses are quick learners, capable of shifting their fighting style from moment to moment to mirror their opponents’ moves. Simply witnessing an enemy’s combat tactics allows a war genius to mimic them perfectly. As a move action, a war genius can spend 1 use of Inspiration to gain the use of a combat feat he has witnessed another creature use in the last minute for a number of rounds equal to his class level. He need not meet the prerequisites for this feat, but if the feat comes in multiple versions (such as Weapon Focus), he may only use the version used by the creature he mimics. A war genius may only have one copied feat in this way at one time; using this ability again replaces the previous copied feat.

This ability replaces alchemy.

Defensive Inspiration

At 2nd level, a war genius can spend 1 use of Inspiration as an immediate action to add his inspiration die as an insight bonus to his armor class against one attack, as long as the attack comes from a creature from which the war genius is currently using Photographic Reflexes to copy a feat. He must declare his use of this ability before the opponent rolls their attack.

This ability replaces poison resistance.

Combat Training

Starting at 2nd level, a war genius can qualify for combat feats as if he were a fighter of his investigator level -3.

This ability replaces poison lore.

Combat Training

At 4th level, a war genius can spend 1 additional use of Inspiration when he uses Photographic Reflexes to use it as a swift action.

This ability replaces swift alchemy.
