SPECIAL ABILITIES

Negative Levels (Su)

Instead of causing nausea with a successful hit as an ordinary draugr does, draugr captains bestow 1 negative level on a hit. A draugr captain can even bestow a negative level via a weapon it wields, but if it gains multiple attacks with a weapon, it can only bestow 1 negative level per round in this manner.

Wealth of Adventuring (Ex)

This creature was a famed adventurer in life and possessed a number of powerful magic items he collected along his travels, including his iconic linnorm hide armor, a mighty longbow, and his magical greatsword. His wealth is equivalent to that of a 13th-level PC, which increases his CR by 1.

Magic Greatsword

Price 90,000 gp; Slot none; CL 10th; Weight 8 lbs.; Aura moderate conjuration and evocation

DESCRIPTION

This legendary blade is a double-sided blade of folded blue steel, intricately engraved with ancient runes that light up with electric flame in the presence of dragonkind. The hilt is inlaid with ebony and wrapped with silver wire; the pommel features two silvered dragon heads.

EFFECT

  1. The sword is a +3 wounding dragonbane greatsword.
  2. When the wielder scores a critical hit on a dragon, the dragon heads on its pommel spit boiling acid into the wound hewn by the blade, dealing an additional 1d10 points of acid damage and 1d10 points of fire damage to the dragon.
  3. The sword’s wielder gains a +4 resistance bonus on all saving throws against breath weapons, spell-like abilities, and spells from dragons.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

Feats Craft Magic Arms and Armor; Spells bleed, summon monster I; Cost 45,000 gp

DESCRIPTION

Organization solitary
Treasure NPC gear (leather armor, masterwork scimitar, other treasure)

While most draugr captains were the masters of their ships in life, exceptions have been known to exist, particularly among lowly crew drudges who derived the most power from their transition to undeath. Such gifted individuals are usually seen by their fellow undead crew members as the rightful captains of the ghost ships they have come to command.

A draugr captain is a draugr with the advanced simple template. In addition to this, most draugr captains have additional class levels, usually as barbarians, fighters, or rogues. Draugr captains can also use obscuring mist as a spell-like ability (CL 5th, concentration +8) three times per day, and instead of causing nausea with a successful hit, they bestow 1 negative level on a hit. A draugr captain can even bestow a negative level via a weapon it wields, but if it gains multiple attacks with a weapon, it can only bestow 1 negative level per round in this manner.
