SPECIAL ABILITIES

Breath of Death (Su)

Once every 1d4 rounds, The Black Monk can breathe a 30-foot cone of tomb gas, ice, and dust. Each living creature in the area must succeed on a Fortitude save (DC 19) or gain 1d4 negative levels. A creature killed by The Black Monk’s breath of death ability rises as a zombie in 1d4 rounds. A zombie created in this manner is under the command of The Black Monk and remains so until either it or he is destroyed.

This save is Charisma-based.

Command Undead (Su)

As a free action, The Black Monk can automatically command all normal undead within 30 feet, except those with more character levels or higher Charisma scores long those of The Black Monk. Undead that fit these parameters never attack The Black Monk unless compelled.

Create Spawn (Su)

Any creature killed by The Black Monk’s mummy rot ability turns to dust and blows away on the wind. If The Black Monk is not destroyed within 1 week, the dust reforms next to it as a new dread mummy. A dread mummy created in this manner is under the command of The Black Monk and remains so until either it or he is destroyed.

Flight (Su)

The Black Monk’s flight speed is similar to that granted by the fly spell, but it cannot be dispelled.

Gaze of Despair (Su)

Any creature within 100 feet of The Black Monk that meets its gaze must succeed on a Fortitude save (DC 17) or be paralyzed for 1d4 rounds. Gaze of despair is a fear effect.

This save is Charisma-based.

Mummy Rot (Su)

Curse and Disease—slam; save Fortitude DC 17; onset 1 minute; frequency 1/day; effect 1d6 Constitution and 1d6 Charisma; cure —.

Mummy rot is both a curse and disease and can only be cured if the curse is first removed, at which point the disease can be magically removed. Even after the curse element of mummy rot is lifted, a creature suffering from it cannot recover naturally over time. Anyone casting a conjuration (healing) spell on the afflicted creature must succeed on a DC 20 caster level check, or the spell is wasted and the healing has no effect. Anyone who dies from mummy rot turns to dust and cannot be raised without a resurrection or greater magic.

A creature killed by a dread mummy’s mummy rot turns to dust and blows away on the first gust of air unless both remove disease and raise dead are cast on the remains within 6 rounds. This save is Charisma-based.

Resistant to Blows (Ex)

The Black Monk takes only half damage from melee and ranged weapons, natural weapons, and falls. Apply this reduction before applying damage reduction.
