Donkey rats (or capybaras) are brown or snowy white rodents the size of small dogs, with long legs and short, furry tails that are sometimes used as pets.

Donkey rats are often caught and domesticated. In addition to being a pet, a donkey rat’s meat is considered quite good. The gamey taste and its status as a pet mean that the urban populace considers it to be a meal only fit for those living in remote, uncivilized areas. They are also sometimes taken by spellcasters as familiars, particularly among dwarves and gnomes.
